(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Muslims from Russia, Iran, the Republic of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Pakistan as well as Arab Muslim nationals residing in the Russian capital attended the annual religious ceremony held by the Center to observe the fortieth day of the martyrdom of third Shia Imam Hussein (AS) slain by forces loyal to the second Umayyad caliph Yazid in A.D. 680.
Hojatoleslam Seyyed Ali Akbar Ojaqnezhad, Representative of Iran's Supreme Leader in the Republic of Azerbaijan, during his speech in the ceremony told the Muslim mourners that the uprising by Imam Hussein (AS) against the oppression of Yazid bears big lessons for the Shiia Muslims.
'It represented great achievements as well for the world of Islam and fostered anti-dictatorial thoughts and revolutions,' Ojaqnezhad said.
Muslims in other parts of Russia, including Saint Petersburg and other mosques and religious centers also took part in similar ceremonies to mourn martyrdom of the third Shia Imam.
